Today’s Dickhead of the day, David Farrier, has a nasty little hobby. He likes to deplatform people, try to cost them their jobs and shitpost about them afterwards to really rub their noses in it. He is the poster boy for Cancel Culture.

David Farrier is the guy who tried very hard to cost a NZ Christian teacher his job because he went to a protest wearing a MAGA cap. He didn’t just harass the teacher’s school once, he repeatedly e-mailed them demanding that they sack the teacher and wrote an article about his failed attempt while trying to drum up a social media mob to help him achieve his nasty, spiteful goal.

Yesterday he must have felt particularly pleased with himself as he deplatformed for the second time columnist Steve Elers.

Here is what happened in Steve’s own words from an e-mail he sent out to his subscribers.

Weekly column – Deplatformed!

Cancel culture strikes again!

Dear Subscriber,

Today I was informed by Merania Karauria – the editor of the Manawatu Guardian (part of the NZME conglomerate) – that my weekly column will no longer be published in print or on the NZ Herald’s website.

She said she received a directive this morning from Kim Gillespie (NZ Herald/NZME) due to complaints made over the weekend. I will highlight here that Merania contacted me again stating that she is responsible for the decision making, but I know that it came from above at NZ Herald/NZME.

The complaints are in relation to a series of Twitter messages and an online article by David Farrier (see below). Note: Do not mistake him for David Farrar of Kiwiblog.

This is the second time I have been ‘deplatformed’ or ‘cancelled’ by Mr Farrier. Maybe he fancies me or something.

Mr Farrier led the online campaign to have my weekly Stuff column ‘cancelled’ because he disagreed with this article I wrote back in July.

After Stuff let me go I was fortunate to switch to the Manawatu Guardian/NZ Herald. However, Mr Farrier took exception (again!) to an article I published last month. Read my article for yourself here.

On the weekend he published this article about me. He also had a little rant on Twitter:

If you thought that ‘cancel culture’ was only in the United States, it’s definitely here too!  It is worrying, isn’t it?

Perhaps I can lay claim to being the first columnist let go by both Stuff and NZ Herald because they caved under pressure from the angry mob.

If you enjoyed this BFD Dickhead of the day please share it.
