A staff member at prestigious Wellington school Scots College has been arrested and appeared in Wellington District Court on Thursday morning charged with assault.

The saga at the school has been ongoing since May with the staff member suspended on full pay since the time of the complaint, pending the outcome of the Police investigation. It is understood that the staff member continued to work for the school, though not on school premises.

The Police investigation involved interviews with many students and parents, with witness statements being prepared.

Scots College spent months telling parents that they don’t have to cooperate with police according to communications sighted by The BFD.

The college also hired a barrister who “cleared” headmaster Graeme Yule of any wrongdoing in how he handled the complaint from when it was first raised. Parents involved have told The BFD that the school tried to interfere with the police investigation but ultimately failed.

At the time the allegations were raised The BFD sought comment from Scots College and raised a series of questions, both of the headmaster and also the board members including the chair of the school board.

Those questions remain unanswered to this day.

The BFD contacted the board chair, Steven McJorrow and the headmaster, Graeme Yule for comment and put the same questions to them again. At the time of publishing, no comment has been received.
