1970
We are told Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support that by 1980, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution. By 1995 nearly 80% of all living animals will become extinct, and we are warned the global temperature would have cooled by 11 degrees and there could be a new ice age by 2000.
1974
The White House is warned of impending famines and a global ice age. Scientists lament this presentation, reflecting the consensus of the climatology community, and that their warnings fell on deaf ears.
1975
Climate scientists conclude that it’s the ‘central fact’, that the earth’s climate seems to be cooling down.
1978
An international Team of specialists continue to warn us of a global cooling trend, “There is no end in sight”
1980
We are warned we are leaving the next generation tens of thousands of sterile lakes due to acid rain.
1988
Within 20 years, The West Side Highway in New York will be underwater. Sea Levels threaten to cover over 1100 islands in the Maldives by 2018. Sometime between 2025 to 2050, temperatures will be 7 degrees higher than they are today and sea levels could rise as much as 2 metres.
1989
We are told there are only 11 years to reverse Global Warming in order to prevent a global catastrophe and prevent rising sea levels from wiping out entire nations.
1990
The planet could face an ‘ecological and agricultural catastrophe’ by 2000 if global warming trends continue.
2001
The IPCC predict much milder Winters. Thirteen years later the Office of Science and Technology warns that extreme cold was going to become more common.
2005
Scientists warn that global warming will decimate coastal areas by 2010, creating upwards of 50 million climate refugees.
2008
Prince Charles proclaims we only have 3 months to save the World.
2009
A Catastrophe of floods, droughts and killer heatwaves are coming, and we only have 50 days to save the world. Al Gore reiterates that it is the scientific consensus that the Arctic Sea Ice will have melted by 2013.
2013
The Arctic Sea Ice will have melted by 2015.
2014
We only have 500 days left to save the World.
2022
NZ SeaRise, a research programme funded by the Government, releases data showing sea levels in New Zealand are rising twice as fast as previously thought. We are likely to see 30cm of sea-level rise in the next 18 years, instead of by 2060.
Yeah, Right!
So what is this story really about? Maybe there is a clue in what the Prime Minister said… “councils have to cough up the cash.”
It seems that if sea levels are rising… or even if they aren’t, taxpayers will be taking a bath either way.
