Lately, I’ve been thinking about how we get out of this mess. Sure Ardern is dropping in popularity – surprisingly slowly given her government’s incompetence and wickedness. I think part of the problem is that so many Kiwis have bought the “Health Issue” narrative, and because they have done everything they have been told, they are relatively unaffected. Unfortunately, many of these ordinary Kiwis think they are getting a balanced and fair representation of the state of things when they switch on the 6 o’clock news or read Stuff. Before scoffing at their naivety, which let’s admit it, would be cathartic, we should consider how to wake these Kiwis up. We don’t want a third consecutive year ruined by these authoritarian tyrants.

So what’s the game plan? This is where normal good people who can see through the utter crap that has been spouted for much of the last two years need to start getting vocal. My wife and have realized lately, that for too long we have let the dogmatic loonies and those with authoritarian impulses own space at the expense of ordinary common sense people (like ourselves of course!). This happens on social media, organisations, clubs, businesses and even churches. We can’t be bothered telling people on social media, or in the organisations we support that their ideas are stupid or wrong, or that Jacinda is not the second coming of Christ bringing with her peace justice and prosperity, because as a general rule, people from our side of the political spectrum are more inclined to get on with their own lives and not interfere with others – even when they say and do dumb stuff which is unfortunately habitual for the socialist.

The problem with our policy is that those on the other side of the fence are not keen to return this live and let live favour. Their philosophy is about top-down control. For them to achieve utopia, they believe their god the state must control everything. The state-worshippers at your church want the church to ‘encourage’ everyone to get vaccinated and wear masks. If they don’t; well they’ll just have to become techno gnostic worshippers via Zoom.

The social media sweethearts turn on anyone who stands up for individual rights and freedom as selfish individualists who care nothing for human life. The only experts are those who agree with the increasingly desperate and authoritarian government. These are the same fools who have spent ridiculous sums of money to keep us safe from a disease that they now recommend we stock up on Panadol and cough lollies for.  It’s no surprise to thinking people that we now have high inflation which is going to hurt us all and cause us a world of pain for our poorest and most vulnerable citizens. This result is as universally ignored by utopians as it is predictable.

So the lesson from our current plight is that we on the side of truth and freedom need to speak up. And there is plenty to speak up about in our current climate. What we must do is highlight the injustice of the policies of the idiots running ruining our country. We’ve seen how the plight of the pregnant kiwi journalist who was offered safe haven from the Taliban, but not our government has had a real impact on public perception. That’s one story. Each one of us has at least a dozen more like it.

Mandates have destroyed the careers of decent hardworking Kiwis. Lockdowns have destroyed businesses and led some to suicide. Elderly family members have been left to die alone. Family have not been permitted to have funerals. Weddings have been cut back due to travel and other restrictions. Relatives can’t attend due to vaccine passports. And don’t even mention MIQ.

The point is, there are thousands of stories of injustice to tell. Tell the stories that have impacted you. Let’s each be one of the many cuts that this appalling tyrannical government will eventually die from.

To be clear – I am not advocating violence. I am urging you to win the war of public opinion.

Become that righteous prophet with the long hair and unkempt beard telling uncomfortable truths to comfortable people.

We need to get the apathetic off the couch and onto the path of justice. Their compromised consciences need to be reawakened and that is what our stories will do.
