Our world is divided
Like never before
The need to be right
Turned this plight into war

Traditional weapons
we sideline in favour
Of words as an art form
To one-up we savour

Our friends are as foes
Our whanau oppose
This self righteous need
For agreement just grows

We ration out kindness
Once shown to mankind
To only the worthy;
Those of the same mind

How quickly forgotten
Our nation’s great cry
That Peace and not war
We’ll embrace: what a lie

Extending an olive branch,
hard it may be,
might just be our ticket
To true unity

Lay down your opinion
Free yourself from dominion
Stop allowing yourself
To be pawned like a minion

Be armed once again
With humility’s kindness
Kotahitanga and aroha
Yet bind us

Lay down our political
Left stance or right
As we jump on this waka
And row without fight

Of our brothers and sisters
Whilst holding heads high
As the world’s gaze is on us
Let’s prove to them kiwis can fly
