Cultural Norm

Isn’t it ‘strange’ how Maori Party MP Debbie Ngarewa-Packer – yes, the clown who commits cultural appropriation every time she wears a British top hat in Parliament – has ‘replaced’ the highly respected former senior government minister and historian, Dr Michael Bassett, as a columnist at NZME? Is this gender equality in action? Or something else?

Let us recall how Dr Bassett wrote (in the column that was quickly suppressed by NZME and which led to a ban on all-things-Bassett by the NZ Herald) that:

“All things derived from Europe, except our creature comforts, must be set aside as we are expected to embrace all things Maori. It won’t be long before the woke who are driving all of this insist on officially changing our country’s name.”

Now, instead, the NZ Herald publishes the racist views of someone who writes:

“Amending local government legislation so that Maori wards could be created like every other ward” … and “How astounding that speaking up for a little parity creates such a stoush …”

Maori wards, like the Maori Party concept itself, are inherently racist! There is no equality or parity about them. No other racial group in New Zealand has its own party or wards, so which of the two columnists do you think is closer to the truth?

As for the sorry state of the NZ Herald‘s decline and its lack of balance and integrity in not upholding every person’s right to freedom of speech, there is no doubt much more of this kind of racist rhetoric to look forward to, from what was once a balanced and respected news medium.
