If there is one thing we the people have finally learnt from the plague disaster scenario kept going by western governments for the past two years, it is how we have been tricked.

We learned the hard way that the whole faƧade of what we accepted as our culture, the workings of our economy and even our democracy, was nothing more than a house of cards maintained by a government which by secrecy and lies could collapse whenever they chose.

We have seen during those two years how the cultural rituals of birth, marriage and death which we have honoured for many centuries could be changed in a heartbeat. Our justice system, our education system, our water supply, our health care system and even our language are being changed. Uncertainty is now the name of the game. Words are being added, meanings are being changed. Why? Into what? Can you say this? Can you do that? And where? And when? And with whom?

The government did not have a mandate to do these things, so of course the people are protesting.

Even as they see what is happening in this little country there are still men and women who will deny the fact that totalitarianism is alive and well and living in the Beehive. I’ve heard some appallingly vicious remarks about what should be done to anyone who protests against governmental mandates ā€“ mandates delivered by public servants and politicians who have made sure that they do not have to obey those same mandates themselves.

We are governed by politicians who have made sure their positions and incomes will not be affected in any way by the pandemic no matter how incompetent or corrupt they are. They will get their parliamentary pension after nine years (or is it now three?) while they debate whether a man who has worked fifty years at manual labour should be forced to work another five years before he gets his. We need to change this too.

The mass demonstration at parliament serves as a warning that the tipping point is being approached. This means that the government will soon have to either increase the pressure to achieve its objectives (and risk an even greater reaction) ā€“ or back down.

PM Jacinda Ardern is building a wall between the people she is supposed to represent and the parliamentary elites.

The first response from Parliament was to send a pepper spray armed force to intimidate, harass, and physically subdue the protestors. The results of such measures have made not only the protestors, but also people around the country and the world, realise that politicians do not represent us, our countries, or our way of life. They serve something else ā€“ something else indeed that does not wish us well.

Of course, people are protesting. Why haven’t they done so before? It was because the tipping point was not met until Ardern wanted to inject five-year-olds with an experimental vaccine. That was the bridge she and her cronies were not allowed to cross.

The battle is now on.
