The Junta troops continue to take casualties. There are sporadic conflicts throughout the regions and the civilians are fighting back in low scale conflicts. The troops are having problems with supplies and are “foraging” for food. They are stealing rice and chickens from the local villagers and causing resentment. In the cities, the troops and the police are stealing cash, food, and motorcycles from the residents.

Illegal detention and torture are on the increase. Targets now are young women who are being abducted and questioned, resulting in the loss of teeth. I have access to the pictures, and they are horrific. Medics are being arrested and tortured in attempts to get them to reveal the names of people they have treated.

Myanmar military regime troops have rounded up and tortured a number of people following a series of deadly blasts that killed at least one soldier and wounded several others in Yangon on Saturday.

The three explosions occurred at the government’s General Administration Office in Yankin Township, where troops have been based since March.

Following the blasts, security forces launched night raids of residences in the neighborhood and arrested around three dozen people, locals said.

On Sunday, the regime’s Myawaddy TV announced that six people, two women and four men, had been arrested in the township with homemade bombs and related materials after a tip-off.

In pictures aired during the report, the accused show signs of severe torture.

However, locals said that at least 10 of the people arrested, including the six identified by the junta, are being held at an interrogation center in the outskirts of Yangon. The 10 known detainees are Ma Khin Nyein Thu, Ko Wanna Htun, Ko Swan Pyae Lin, Ma Hsu Lin Htet, Ko Min Khant Naung, Ko Yan Naing Soe, Ko Kaung Sett, Ko Phone Myat Win, Ko Swan Htet Hlaing Thaw and Ko Thura Aung.

Numerous explosions and arson attacks have occurred across the country recently following the regime’s brutal crackdowns on protesters.

Pro-democracy rallies have been held across the country since early February following the military coup. The junta has responded to the protests with brutal force, slaying more than 700 civilians, including children, so far.

The junta has blamed “rioters”, the military’s euphemism for protesters, for the destruction. However, some attacks happened during night-time curfew hours when civilians are not supposed to go out.

While most of the blasts caused either minor or no damage, the explosions in Yankin on Saturday appeared to be serious, given the casualties.

A witness told The Irrawaddy that the three explosions occurred after one another and were strong enough to shake homes in the area.

“Black billows of smoke engulfed the administration office and an ambulance rushed in there,” said a resident.

Other than the announcement of the six arrests, the regime has been tight-lipped about the explosions and the casualties so far.

Six members of the Myanmar military regime’s security forces died and 13 others were injured on Sunday when people from Mandalay Region’s Myingyan Township defended themselves against attacks by the junta’s forces, according to local residents.

“They fired wildly. Large numbers of troops came along with a bulldozer to our barricades in No.6 ward around 7 pm on Sunday. We have built several lines of barricades with sandbags,’ said a local resident.

“The security forces removed the barricades along the main road. After they fired shots for quite a while, young people made guerilla attacks. Sixteen of the regime forces were hit. Four troops died immediately and 12 were injured,” said local resident.

That confrontation followed an earlier incident in Myingyan at noon on Sunday, when three civilians were injured after junta security forces opened fire on anti-regime protesters. One man was in a critical condition after being shot in the head while he was closing the shop where he worked.

Two members of the security forces died and one was injured during the attack, said local residents.

Regime reinforcements from Nyaung-U, Meiktila and Mandalay then came to Myingyan on Sunday afternoon and attacked the barricades in No.6 ward using machine guns.

No civilians were injured in the Sunday night shootout but six local residents were arrested.

On Monday, a resident told the Irrawaddy that the junta’s forces continued shooting in No. 6 Ward from around 7 am on Monday and that no one dared to go outside until the afternoon.

A KBZ bank branch in Myingyan was also attacked with a bomb on Sunday afternoon. The entrance of the bank was damaged, but no casualties were reported.

A total of 25 anti-regime protesters in Myingyan have been shot dead by junta forces in the period from March 3 to April 17.
