I have never seen a more pathetic attempt at self-inflicted commiseration than that shown by Stuff. These people must have more time on their hands than they know what to do with. To troll through more than a century and a half of reporting on native affairs so you can create a situation tantamount to slitting your wrists in order to justify an apology beggars belief.

Stuff’s “Truth” starts with a lie.

What is it with these people at Stuff? If this is the sort of thing that tickles their fancy they need to get a life. This sort of nonsense is just what the country doesn’t need. It’s another example of being carted back into the past so we can all once more confess our sins. This country must now collectively have to confess more sins than fifty years worth of weekly masses at the Catholic Church.

This sort of ridiculous carry on serves no benefit to the country; in fact, it is a disservice. We need to move on into the future as one people with the same goal in mind: progress and prosperity. This will never happen while little leftie PC journalists at Stuff perpetuate this sort of baloney. Stuff is only twenty years old so wasn’t even around when the stuff they were reporting on was written.

Navel-gazing never did anyone any good. Redemption has been going on in this country for decades. People need to realise it can’t go on forever. As some on the receiving end of this largesse point out, no matter how much there is it will never be enough to atone for past sins. That is the very reason it has to stop. There has to be a recognition that in all reasonableness much that needed to be done has been done and it’s time to move on.

This cannot be some endless gravy train. I read that Maori have not always had their hand out but rather up trying to get noticed. If that’s the case they’ve achieved an awful lot for supposedly not being noticed. And the money seems to have stuck in the hand whether it was out or up. There is barely any recognition of the work done and the subsequent achievements in the settling of the wrongs of the past. It is never enough and never will be.

This silly attempt by Stuff to mark its twentieth birthday is a very negative way of doing so. After the year we’ve been through, a more positive stance would have been much more welcoming. I suppose that is too much to expect from the left who live in a world of doom and gloom. If you want to live in that world that’s your choice but please don’t inflict it on the rest of us.
