Welcome to the Israel Institute of New Zealand 2020 Voters’ Guide. Our first guide was in 2017 and this one was also compiled after we wrote to all MPs asking for their and their party positions on Israel.

Selected MPs

Alfred Ngaro re-started the New Zealand-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group and has repeatedly committed his support for Israel.

Simon O’Connor is a strong supporter of Israel and has advocated the NZ embassy move to Israel [from Turkey].

He spoke with us about the issues in this guide:

Todd McClay is a strong supporter of Israel and has advocated the NZ embassy move to Israel [from Turkey].

When confronted, Jacinda Ardern distanced herself from an anti-Israel hate group; however, she has failed to distance NZ from funding extremism or condemn one of her MPs for supporting the discriminatory BDS campaign; and she accused Israel for the “devastating one-sided loss of life” in the conflict on the Gaza border without mentioning Hamas.

Winston Peters made an apology for the immigration mistake with the map of Israel; however, failed to distance NZ from funding extremism.

Duncan Webb is a supporter of BDS and has said that “a strong Zionist lobby” controls US politics.

Golriz Ghahraman falsely suggested Israel was committing “genocide” and “apartheid” and falsely said Jesus’ mother was a Palestinian.
