Now that the PM has introduced the “toughest border controls in the world” it can’t go unnoticed that the only people who won’t be bearing the financial impact of these decisions are those who are making these decisions. I would guarantee that the PM’s $10,000 per week remuneration will be deposited as usual in her account as will all the others surviving on the public trough. Whilst I agree the Pacifica event should have been cancelled, the timing of the announcement is appalling. It should have been done at least two weeks ago, not 24 hours before it was due to commence.

Thousands of individuals had travelled to the event from throughout New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Hundreds of stall operators had set up shop committing considerable investment in merchandise, food and beverages. Thousands had committed to providing entertainment and had committed time, expenditure and personal sacrifice in preparation to perform. In summary, thousands are about to experience considerable financial hardship all because of a Government, who at best, are dithering idiots.

Nothing has changed from two weeks ago. Where was the foresight by these “leaders”? Where was the commitment to minimise the consequences of their decisions? No forward planning, kneejerk responses to every passing bus. This is why the country is falling apart. There is no forward planning just daily updates. Everything changes on a daily basis. This is not how you run a coordinated response to a crisis. For the last month, nothing has changed in relation to the impact of the virus. There is no excuse for the indecisive and financially crippling responses. Two weeks too late. The leadership is appalling.
