OPINION

As I have said numerous times I am a country boy. I grew up in the country near Mosgiel (where I still live), and also spent several years in rural Southland. I prefer the company of rural landowners and other rich country folk who have a similar view of the world to myself. Consequently, I have never understood the “urban middle class.” I genuinely do not understand their values, mores, view of the world; their vulgarity, their ignorance; or their elemental self-loathing.

The times I’ve spent around city folk are times spent in a state of utter bewilderment. I was forced to interact with lots of upper-middle-class brats when at high school and found them unfathomable. I never had the slightest respect for any of them back then, often musing during the 1980s that they were basically half-witted savages, and shuddering at the consequences in 20 years when they would start breeding. My teenage augury has been proven beyond question!

Yesterday the Supreme Court declared a voting age of 18 to be discriminatory. They did this in response to a campaign by a number of odious spoilt brats to lower the voting age to 16 and grasped at a straw claiming the NZ Bill of Rights Act says so. This has attracted a great deal of comment in the last day or so from numerous quarters; the National and ACT parties ruling out a law change, Ardern declaring it some sort of top priority. The woke media is also largely supportive.

But if you look closely you find something interesting in this caper – all of those involved are of a certain “type”; rich, white, prissy, odious and following the example of their parents in engaging in show-off decadent ’causes’ to fill in their bored and vacant lives.  Notice there are no Maori, Islander, Indian, or Asian kids involved in this.

What I strongly suspect occurred at the Supreme Court was the judges looked down and saw carbon copies of their own children and those of everyone they know! Ditto Ardern and the other rich kids sitting around the Cabinet table in their haste to “coo” and “ahhh” at how frightfully clever “Prudence and Tarquin” are in championing this most important cause.

The issue of lowering the voting age was irrelevant; the Judges and left-wing politicians view it as akin to letting their brats drink a glass of wine whilst on holiday in Pauanui. If the brats whine long enough, the parents let them.

It should also be noted that John Key held a similar view of such ghastly children; regularly gushing and coo-ing at repulsive high school children he’d meet who reminded him of his own and those of all his friends; whilst the rest of us roared with laughter at how funny his amaurosis was.

The campaign to lower the voting age isn’t a real undertaking; it isn’t seriously supported by anybody.

They no more support 16-year-olds voting than they intend to give up their $3 million house, gourmet food, expensive car, foreign holidays, clothing, or anything else in support of “climate change”. It is you who must sacrifice.

This is all about a small group of thoroughly rotten people seeking to either show off to each other, or to impose their opinions on everybody else. (So there – you racist!)
