Dr Jordan Peterson spoke to a full Spark Arena last night, and I felt privileged to be able to support his work and attend with my son. I am a strong, independent woman raising a strong, independent young man. I want my voice to be heard in opposition to the cancel culture we are being subjected to by a noisy few.

A group called Auckland Feminist Action penned an article, published in Scoop on 11 November, calling for the cancellation of Jordan Peterson’s tour in New Zealand.

In the exact words of the article, “Auckland Feminist Action is particularly concerned about the platforming of someone with misogynist and transphobic views, especially in light of worldwide heightened attacks on women’s and marginalised genders’ self-determination.”

“’We believe that there should be no room for these hateful views in Aotearoa’, says Dave.”

Dave has provided no evidence for this claim. In my opinion, these statements likely constitute a good case for charges of defamation against Dave.

However, my intention here is to bring to public light the actual statements that were made by Dr Jordan Peterson at his event last night on the subjects Dave raised, “women’s and marginalised genders’ self-determination”, in relation to each other on the gender dysphoria epidemic topic.

An audience question was raised asking what advice could be given to someone suffering from gender dysphoria. Dr Peterson answered in the context of the individual being an adolescent. Dr Peterson began by mentioning the American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines. We have similar guidelines here put out by the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).

Dr Peterson said that the APA guidelines legally bind therapists to affirm the client’s self-reported diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

He noted that self-reporting is not acceptable for diagnosis in any other clinical circumstance.

He went on to say that depression and anxiety are usually present when gender dysphoria is self-reported and that these should be dealt with as a priority.

Dr Peterson then said that in 2016 he had warned others in this space that allowing self-reporting would disproportionately affect young women. He said that it was well documented that adolescent women are more likely to suffer from psychological epidemics, particularly on matters of physical appearance. He noted bulimia among many other examples.

Dr Peterson also pointed out that the APA guidelines state there is not enough data to show the psychological outcomes for those who have had gender reassignment.  However, it is accepted by the supporters of gender reassignment that without this reassignment the client is more likely to commit suicide.

How can the data not exist and exist at the same time?

Gender reassignment is a huge undertaking for females and their families, involving sterilisation and sexual mutilation. Dr Peterson said what is well documented is when the wait-and-see method is adopted; 90% of adolescents who were previously unsettled, settle into their naturally born bodies.

I was born less feminine in some ways than many of my female peers. I am grateful and proud that I was a ‘tomboy’ growing up and that I am comfortable with who I am. I see a great hypocrisy in the current trend of affirming gender dysphoria by self-proclaimed promoters of individualism.

Promoting gender ideology by mandating our delegated authorities, our therapists, is promoting the idea to our children, disproportionately our girls, that they must choose to be either typical male or typical female, and if they don’t fit that, they should take pills and have surgery until they do.

Dr Jordan Peterson spoke in Christchurch to a sold-out crowd and his event in Wellington last night will no doubt have been equally popular. I am clearly not the only one wanting to hear what he has to say through his thorough research of many social topics. If we all put as much effort and research into what we said in public as Dr Jordan Peterson does, it would be a safer place for all.
