The concept of giving extra voting power to a specific group is not new, but when used it is generally to support a specific need.
In Japan they have the ‘rice vote’ – you get an extra vote if you use spare land for growing rice.
This was introduced in Japan as a strategic need in WW2 and has never been repealed.
So who do we give an extra vote to in New Zealand: ??
Economic specialists – No
People with advanced academic qualifications capable of critical thinking of multi outcome problems – No
People with large scale business management experience – No
Significant role models – All Blacks, pop-singers, celebrity chefs – No
People who follow a particular faith – religion, rotary club, golfers, surfers, biker gangs, country women’s institute – No
A tribal elite amongst those who claim they may have a fragment of a golden gene, no matter how much diluted, from an ancient ancestor who had brown skin – Yes
Totally corrupt.
