Having had several sleepless nights due to the anticipation and excitement about the forthcoming Oprah Winfrey interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, I can now reveal that “Meghan chose a classically beautiful outfit, wearing a flowing monochrome Giorgio Armani gown. The ‘long triple silk georgette dress’ cost £3,300 [NZ$6,500] and featuring a striking lotus flower print across the shoulder and bust in contrasting white.” … “Meghan accessorised her outfit with a pair of sleek black pointed toed Aquazzura heels, a delicate pair of gold earrings by Birks and her favourite Cartier Love bangle”. Suck that up Jacinda!

I discovered this newsflash in the RTE as I was searching for information regarding the young twelve-year-old Irish lass Edie, who had received a belated reply from Ardern regarding a fan letter Edie had sent a whole year earlier. Of course, Stuff and the NZ Herald thought this was news; after all, how could a head of government find the time to be so charitable? Even if it was a year later. This is why: the girl’s father is Philip Bromwell, a leading journalist at RTE, the public broadcasting service of the Republic of Ireland.

So guess what? When the daughter of a leading journalist receives a letter from a head of state, what do you think journalist dad would do? This is what! The Irish media has picked up the story, and locals have taken to social media to share their love for the response. “Fantastic leader. And well done to your then 11yr old getting in touch with her. They couldn’t have picked a more inspiring leader in these unprecedented times”, one wrote.

I’m not sure who is the most desperate for attention, Megan or Jacinda? Ardern never finds time to respond to my letters, however.

But the best piece of news I discovered by Philip Bromwell in the RTE was the headline, “A large mural in Dublin, by acclaimed artist Emmalene Blake, of climate activist Greta Thunberg, has been vandalised a little over 24 hours after it was finished”. Another good news story from Philip!
