Muttley Bones

Yesterday my subscription to the Otago Daily Times ran out. It is not being renewed. The paper has been part of my everyday life since primary school.

It may be that I’m just turning into an old grumpy conservative but I see the standards of reporting have now dropped to simple leftwing opinions. Gone are the days of balanced views. Continual hit jobs on the National party, the US Republicans and any other non-socialist party, worldwide, have left me sickened.

Fair enough that the left deserves to be heard and I’m in no way against anyone who supports them. Yet when the media is as unbalanced as a Flintstone wheel alignment, then a thinking man decides that enough is enough.

From editorial to cartoon and political reports, the whole paper has become red to the point that I can no longer take it seriously.

Rather than hold a government to account, as should be the job of the media, they’d rather publish fluff pieces about our Prime Minister dazzling school girls. When a government has failed so decisively to deliver on any of its promises surely questions should have been asked?

I know my protest won’t ever register with the paper but I’ll be less aggravated every day. With print media readerships declining worldwide I’ll just be lost as another statistic. Guess I’ll just have to rely on trusted news sources from now on. The BFD springs to mind.
