This Government, after three years in office and virtually nothing to show for it, have, as a result, decided to fight this election on a platform of fear. This is cowardice in its worst form. This is the modus operandi of bullies. The only ammunition they have in their arsenal is the fear factor. They will tell you otherwise – that their plethora of (tax?) policies they had planned to bring forward had to be shelved in order to put COVID front and centre.

Judith Collins has said BS to that. She is marching on giving us a glimpse of what the next three decades might look like under a government led by her. It is ironic that her major announcements so far are in the area of transport to keep the country moving while Labour’s only answer is a billboard with Ardern and the slogan “let’s keep moving”. How? To where? What is the plan?

The truth is there is no plan, hence they resort to fear tactics. What a disgrace. Contrary to what the brainwashed seem to think, they have made a mess of handling the COVID situation. Locking down is easy. Crashing the economy is easy. The message for the brainwashed is the crash has yet to come and you can bet on it happening before a vaccine arrives.

Fran O’Sullivan is far from impressed with the Government in this regard. Writing in the Weekend Herald, she notes the warnings have stepped up but asks what has the Government really done. She asks why the scare tactics are occurring now and not earlier. I think she knows the answer to that. She questions the sudden emphasis on masks when earlier warnings on their recommended use were downplayed by the Ministry of Health and Bloomfield. This, she says, is more than dumb.

Fran talks about her interview with Helen Clark and John Key and their view that New Zealand needed to invest in world-class border facilities so that returning Kiwis and critical personnel can be professionally quarantined. They talked about measures to protect the education export sector and tourism. The problem is this is all way beyond this bunch of rank amateurs. Beyond lockup or lockdown, they haven’t a clue. Which is why in reality, the woman’s billboard is a lie, nothing is moving.

All we have had in three years is three windbags, Ardern, Robertson and Woods spouting generalities and bluster. They are very good at communicating in a way that the brainwashed think they’re doing a wonderful job. What they are doing is wasting our money on impractical ideas such as the quarantining of returning travellers. There has to be a better and more economical way of dealing with these people. Unfortunately, implementing anything of this nature is way beyond the mental capacity of anyone in this Government.

They have already proved this with the failure of Kiwibuild, light rail, and child poverty to name the most obvious. Their problem is that they lack vision. This is because, bar one that I can think of, they have no experience in the business world. They have no idea how small businesses operate or what they require to stay viable. They can’t see the bigger picture; the projects needed to create thousands of jobs which long term will benefit the country.

Judith can. She knows what is required to keep us moving such as the Auckland, Upper North Island and Wellington transport projects she has announced. These are projects that will be put in place before they are needed, reversing the perennial problem of past Governments who wait until they are required. This is the visionary forward-thinking that has been so lacking in the past. Thirty-one billion over thirty years will be money well spent.

By contrast, the big announcement from Ardern at the Labour launch was a policy to help employers keep people in jobs and another to help the unemployed start up a small business. The first was a continuation of the wage subsidy dressed up in another name and the second was virtually a copy of a policy Judith had already announced. By my reckoning that’s about the third policy they’ve copied from National. This illustrates the lack of vision and original thought from Labour.

Bereft of ideas they resort to fear. This has to be seen for what it is – a cowardly ploy to win an election with a manifesto designed to keep the populace on edge with the only policies being those of either welfare or subsidy based. If this is their idea of “let’s keep moving” then it’s a joke. They have spent three years in neutral and have yet to find first gear.

Only bullies would have the gall to fight an election based on a platform of fear. These cowards need to be consigned to the opposition benches so they can reflect on their objectionable behaviour.
