Government COVID-19 Response Briefing

The All of Government COVID-19 National Response will provide an update at 1.00 pm today.

Speakers:

Ministry of Health Update:

  • 20 new cases, 6 confirmed and 14 probable
  • 728 recovered
  • 1386 Total cases
  • 3 people are in ICU, 2 of them critical.
  • 16 significant clusters – one more than yesterday. The new cluster is in Auckland and is connected to an aged-care facility.
  • In regards to the reported death in Invercargill, Bloomfield said they can’t confirm the cause of death at the moment. If they’re confident it was from Covid-19 then it will be the first, and they will announce it then.
  • Bloomfield has again said we’re past the peak, but not out of the woods

Prime Minister’s Update:

  • PM, ministers and senior civil servants to take an immediate 20% pay cut for next 6 months
  • Not talking about any pay cuts for front-line public service workers.
  • Re: US President Trump’s suspension of funding for the WHO. Ardern said her view is that the WHO is an important body, and we need to be sharing reliable advice at this time. She said the WHO has provided that information and NZ will continue to make that contribution. Ignoring WHO’s toadying to Chinese interests

  • The man in Wellington was admitted on 22 March and had been unwell for some time.
  • All new arrivals at aged care goes into isolation for 14 days
  • 17 new cases, 8 confirmed and 9 probable
  • 628 recovered
  • 1366 total cases
  • 15 in hospital, 3 in ICU, 1 in critical condition
  • 15 significant clusters, Matamata 71, Bluff 86 cases, Marist 85, Aged Residential Care facility in Auckland 10
  • 2% are confirmed as community transmission
  • 1572 tests processed
  • 64,399 total tests
