New Zealand is now in a State of National Emergency, after 50 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus were confirmed today, bringing the total to 205.
- Temporary visas will be extended until late September
- Every New Zealander coming through the borders will be screened
- Some showing symptoms or failing to self-isolate will be placed in an approved quarantine facility.
- Tough new border restrictions for returning Kiwis
- Recent arrivals with an appropriate self-isolation plan will be checked on by police in the days that follow. If they don’t follow requirements they’ll be fined and quarantined.
- Returning Kiwis represent a threat to stopping the threat of covid-19.
- Businesses in doubt “should be closed”, Ardern said in regards to non-essential businesses affected by the lockdown.
- Act like you already have Covid-19. Stay at home.
- Quarantine facilities will be predominantly hotels and motels, especially those around airports. She said facilities were ready to go.
- People who are recent arrivals who do have a plan to self-isolate will be checked on by police
