We were told that we went “hard and early.” We were told that it was the cost for us to “battle the virus”. Then we were told that we had “eliminated the virus,” that the effort was worth it, that the job losses were worth it and that because we complied we would now not have to do it all over again.

And then the border leaked.

And then we had community transmission again, and then we had a second lockdown.

The Prime Minister stood before us all again and told us lie after lie as she sought to minimise being held to account for continuing lax border controls with their quarantine and isolation regime.

A private company was smeared and defamed by the Prime Minister as she sought to blame them for this “tricky virus” sneaking its way past their ever vigilant border staff.

Now it appears that the border has failed yet again. It must have been because we’ve got people infected with the “tricky virus” imbibing in local pubs.

Aucklanders who visited a North Shore pub last week are being asked to get tested for COVID-19 after an infectious person visited a bar.

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) said on Wednesday a person who’s confirmed to have the virus visited The Malt in Greenhithe on October 16. They were there from 7:30pm until 10pm.

The testing and self-isolation measures are part of an investigation into the infectious person’s movements.

ARPHS said most patrons are considered casual contacts but are being asked to get tested as soon as possible. “A few” close contacts in the pub have been identified and are being contacted.

“They should stay at home in self-isolation until they receive a negative test result. Staff will also be asked to get tested,” it said.

“If people at the pub that night get sick however, even after a negative test result, they should self-isolate again, and get tested again.”

So, how did this person, who spent three hours sinking piss at the pub wind up with the virus?

It can only have come through the border. Or it is now super tricky, like really, really tricky.

It is no surprise then that we are now being frightened and scared again by Health officials. They are now once again softening us up for another Auckland wide lockdown.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield is warning Kiwis to remain vigilant over Labour weekend as Covid-19 threatens to re-emerge in the community.

His words come after a man infected with Covid-19 recently visited an Auckland pub before later testing positive.

People who attended The Malt in Greenhithe between 7:30pm and 10pm last Friday night have been asked to get tested and self-isolate.

Bloomfield took time to remind New Zealanders to use the Covid tracer app and wear masks while travelling on public transport ahead of the long weekend.

“WE DO, BUT THIS VIRUS DOESN’T TAKE BREAKS,” HE SAID AT TODAY’S 1PM BRIEFING.

Oh, a super-fit AND tricky virus. Be careful people, look over your shoulders, watch the shadows for a tricky virus wearing sneakers. Or maybe we could unionise the virus and enforce breaks?

They’ve amped up the peer pressure for the Snitch App, which BTW I still have not installed on my phone. It’s bad enough that I’m being spied on by the GCSB (yes it’s true) without adding more government snitches to the list.

So, as a special thanks for duly taking the knee and voting for Jacinda Ardern despite her legacy of failure in general and at the border, we are now being softened up for yet another lockdown because it appears that the border has leaked yet again.

I wonder if they will shamelessly keep on using their now obvious lies as they tell us that this time, if we comply, it will be the last time.

I don’t think there is any doubt that this won’t be the last lockdown, despite the WHO saying that they are detrimental and don’t work. It’s the only tactic the “Fairy Princess” has, so for those of you who still have jobs and businesses get ready for your turn to be the sacrifice we must make to stop what is now a super-fit and tricky virus.

See you on the dole queue.
