In news that’s sure to upset and outrage Jacinda Ardern’s legion of fawning admirers in the media, the Bad Orange Man has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, while the fairy princess is left to helplessly click her glass slippers from the sidelines.
President Donald Trump was nominated Wednesday for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination was submitted by Norwegian Member of Parliament Christian Tybring-Gjedde, who also nominated Trump in 2018.
Of course the nomination is more a stunt than anything else, but even as a stunt, it serves to highlight the basic uselessness of the Peace Prize and its recipients.
Because, unlike other nominees (not to mention winners), President Trump has actually done something to meet its criteria of “[doing] the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”.
Not only is Trump steadily reducing America’s overseas troop presence and ending its previously endless wars, and bringing North Korea to the negotiating table, he has concluded an historic Middle East agreement – with more to follow.
Citing Trump’s hand in the recent UAE peace deal with Israel, Tybring-Gjedde explained, “For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees.”
“As it is expected other Middle Eastern countries will follow in the footsteps of the UAE, this agreement could be a game changer that will turn the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity,” he added.
Naturally, the Trump Derangement level immediately escalated to Defcon 4.
Some were quick to congratulate the president for the accomplishment.
While others pointed out that nomination only requires one parliamentarian’s nomination — and previous nominees included German dictator Adolf Hitler, Russian dictator Josef Stalin and Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
And winners have included terrorists and race-baiters.
For once, with Trump, the Peace Prize has a chance to prove that it’s something other than the Very Special Prize for Leftist Darlings.
Tybring-Gjedde said he felt that Trump was more deserving than previous nominees and even some previous recipients[…]
“The people who have received the Peace Prize in recent years have done much less than Donald Trump. For example, Barack Obama did nothing,” he said.
Well, that’s not entirely true: Obama helped spark race riots for every single year of his presidency, presided over the most extensive illegal domestic spy program in American history, put Iran on the track to nuclear weaponry, made Libya a failed state with open slave markets and created the power vacuum that enabled the rise of ISIS.
Oh, and he achieved the rare distinction of being the only US president to spend his entire term of office at war.
If that didn’t deserve a Peace Prize, I don’t know what does.
