The first thing Simon Bridges should do when Parliament resumes on Tuesday is to propose a vote of no confidence in this disgraceful rabble that calls itself a Government. Things have been building since the start of the lockdown and it all came to a head on Friday with the dumping of the documents relating to the advice given on the pros and cons of incarcerating the country.
The fact they were released late in the afternoon tells you all you need to know about the contents of said documents. Jacinda managed to expose this fact herself with her directive to her Ministers to say nothing except in brief written replies — censored by her office.
This sort of behaviour gives a pretty clear indication as to the future modus operandi of this Government. They will be intent on passing legislation framed in line with their doctrine: implementing as much State control as they can over all facets of our daily lives. Next week’s Budget will hopefully give us a good steer. Are we going to be taxed to the hilt or will that be after the election? Either way, we will undoubtedly cop it.
The way in which the documents were dumped on Friday gives an idea of the level of stupidity, naivety and arrogance of this Government. This has been further evidenced by the behaviour of David Parker. Mr Parker has highlighted a further trait of the Left who, when pushed into a corner, gets nasty. Simon Bridges experienced this when Parker refused to release the Crown Law evidence relating to the legality of the lockdown. Simon wanted the documents released to the Parliamentary Committee he chairs but instead, Parker offered a confidential viewing. Simon persisted and now Parker has referred him through the Speaker to the Privileges Committee. Guess who chairs that? Parker.
This is getting beyond a joke. This whole event has been grossly mishandled from the outset by this bunch of arrogant, ignorant malcontents. They have only themselves to blame for the perilous position they find themselves in. They are so lacking in grey matter that, late on Friday afternoon, they managed to upset all their journalist friends in the left-wing news media. It will be interesting to see how the one o’clock circus pans out on Monday. Will the media luvvies finally start to hold her to account?
If I were Simon, I would call for a vote of no confidence in a thoroughly undemocratic government. One advantage would be to force Winston to decide whether he is going to continue to be part of the Coalition or sit on the crossbenches. If he decides to stick with the Coalition he could be further risking his re-election chances. It’s getting to the point where Labour, if they keep their present antics up, are not far off pushing the self destruct button.
