Update on Covid-19 National Response

  • Day off for Ashley Bloomfield
  • Most people following rules
  • Some people are congregating
  • Don’t swim or surf
  • Talk to those non-complying
  • If still no compliance call Police on 105
  • Some people playing touch rugby or frisbee in public parks
  • Don’t travel to baches
  • Don’t touch surfaces where other people have touched them
  • You can’t fly, drive, bus or train out of town
  • Red Cross assisting those in quarantine in Hotels
  • In regards to businesses in Canterbury declaring themselves as essential, Ombler said if people see ongoing flouting of the rules they should phone 105.
  • People arriving from international flights will be helped home domestically where they will remain in self-isolation.

Ministry of Health Update:

  • 83 new cases
  • 78 new confirmed cases, 5 probable
  • 50 recovered
  • 12 in hospital. 6 stable, Two people in hospital are in ICU units, one is on a ventilator.
  • Average of 1613 tests each day
  • Total of 451 total cases
  • Abuse on social media against people with COVID-19
  • Most cases still linked to overseas travel.
  • Several cases within Air NZ staff and the company will be providing a statement this afternoon.
  • 5 clusters in NZ – Marists College, the Hereford Conference, the Ruby Princess cruise ship, a wedding in Wellington and a recent trip to New York.
