No matter which side of the debate you are on, most people would agree that having an abortion is a big deal and is a very weighty decision. There is a lot of room for regret afterwards and the danger of women being pressured into them. There is also a lot of ignorance around what an abortion actually entails, which would change the minds of some women if they had been fully informed. The government, however, thinks that it’s like ripping off a Band-Aid and should be rushed as quickly as possible before a woman has had a chance to have second thoughts.

This government is working on a bill to allow McAbortions to take place with no care and no responsibility. If they could, I bet they would process the women on a conveyor belt making the entire process as efficient as possible. Who needs to take the time to consider what they are doing or to be fully informed? Let’s turn our healthcare service into an abortion drive through (just like a drive-by shooting but with only one victim)

Government to decriminalise abortion in major law reform

Women will have access to abortions until 20 weeks’ pregnancy without having to go through legal hoops, under a law change proposed by the Government.

[…] Abortion is currently a crime in New Zealand, but exemptions mean women can still get access if two doctors agree a pregnancy would put them in physical or mental risk – a process that’s been criticised as both slow and stigmatising.
Under the new law, the decision will be up to the woman until 20 weeks’ pregnancy.

[…] “Abortion is the only medical procedure that is still a crime in New Zealand.

Perhaps that is because it is the ONLY medical procedure that stops a beating heart and that involves a body that does not belong to the patient? That is a BIG deal, not something to be trivialised and whitewashed.

SAFE ABORTION SHOULD BE TREATED AND REGULATED AS A HEALTH ISSUE; A WOMAN HAS THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHAT HAPPENS TO HER BODY.”

What’s with this government and making things “health issues”. If you buy and use drugs it is a “health issue” and if you want to terminate an unborn child’s life that is a “health issue” also. The only person whose physical health is affected by abortion is the baby! Abortion is terminally bad for an unborn baby’s health.

THE BILL WILL BE VOTED ON IN A CONSCIENCE VOTE IN PARLIAMENT, RATHER THAN ALONG PARTY LINES.

[…] UNDER THE PROPOSED LAW IT WILL STILL BE ILLEGAL FOR AN UNQUALIFIED PERSON TO TRY TO PERFORM AN ABORTION AND CAUSING THE DEATH OF AN UNBORN CHILD BY HARMING A PREGNANT WOMAN WILL REMAIN AN OFFENCE.

This is VERY bad law. Law has to be logical and if it is legal for a doctor to kill my unborn child at 20 weeks then you cannot simultaneously have a law that says that if someone causes me to miscarry at 20 weeks then, in that case, the child will have recognition as a person by the law and their death will be avenged.

[…]THERE WERE ABOUT 13,000 ABORTIONS PERFORMED IN NEW ZEALAND LAST YEAR AND A SIMILAR NUMBER IN 2017, ACCORDING TO STATISTICS NEW ZEALAND.
[…] 96 OF THOSE IN 2017 TOOK PLACE AFTER 20 WEEKS’ PREGNANCY.
