The leftist echo chamber continues to shill for its own. Just last week, The BFD reported that disgraced former Canberra top prosecutor Shane Drumgold is now teaching law students at Canberra University. Even more galling, the lawyer who was found by two inquiries to have withheld evidence, and knowingly lied to a judge about other, false, evidence, is lecturing on evidence law.

You couldn’t make this stuff up.

But there’s no end to the secret handshakes for members of the Old Lefty Club. Now, Australia’s taxpayer-funded leftist propaganda unit broadcaster is going into bat for their disgraced chum — even if it means lying by omission.

The ACT’s former director of public prosecutions (DPP) Shane Drumgold has called on the ACT government to redact three chapters of Walter Sofronoff‘s report on the prosecution of former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann.

His request comes after a judicial review found adverse findings about Mr Drumgold were affected by an apprehension of bias.

The review also found that seven of the eight damning findings against Drumgold were valid. But nowhere will the ABC tell you that.

Director of the Centre for Public Integrity, Geoffrey Watson SC, said he believed that meant the adverse findings relating to Mr Drumgold now had “no legal effect”.

I am still waiting for the ABC to mention that the review upheld the findings.

The report from Mr Sofronoff was leaked before it was given to the government and Mr Drumgold resigned as DPP soon afterwards.

Suddenly, the ABC which has published hundreds of leaked reports, gets all sniffy about a leaked report? Only a couple of weeks ago, ABC journalists themselves leaked text messages to try and support an anti-Semitic, terror-supporting ABC journalist.

But it’s different when they do it, or it adversely affects one of them.

Mr Drumgold is today arguing that he was forced to resign early as DPP because of the leaking and publishing of Mr Sofronoff’s report before he had seen it.

No, he was forced to resign because he acted grossly unethically, including flat-out lying to a judge.

Mr Drumgold said he had now written to ACT Attorney-General Shane Rattenbury querying the basis for how the government decided his position was untenable, given the recent court ruling.

Because two reviews have found that he:

• made representations to the Chief Justice Lucy McCallum in the proceedings against Mr Lehrmann that were “untrue” and “an invention of his own”;

• That he was guilty of a “serious breach of duty” by failing to comply with the “golden rule” of disclosure that sits at the heart of a fair trial by failing to disclose documents where there was “simply no doubt” that those police investigation documents should have been disclosed;

• That the DPP failed to adopt the rule of thumb used by wise and experienced prosecutors – “if in doubt, disclose”;

• That the DPP “kept the defence in the dark about the steps he was taking to deny them the documents that meant they were in no position to mount a challenge”;

• And that he “constructed a false narrative to support a claim of legal professional privilege”

As the initial inquiry found, even if Drumgold had secured a conviction against Lehrmann, it would have certainly been overturned as a miscarriage of justice. The independent review upheld that first inquiry.

An inquiry, it must also be borne in mind, that Drumgold himself demanded, supposedly to clear his name.

The hubris of these clowns is beyond belief.
