Rob Salmond
General Secretary, Labour

What a month it has been for the Labour team!

You’ll have seen the Budget which predicted 200,000 more people in work in the next four years and a boost to main benefits so 33,000 kids will be lifted out of poverty. But Jacinda and the team achieved so much more than that in May:

  • We’ve changed the law to increase sick leave to ten days a year
  • Our COVID vaccination programme has delivered more than half a million doses
  • We’ve opened a two-way travel bubble with the Cook Islands
  • We’re funding better cancer screening for women
  • We’re backing local jobs with a new rail workshop at Hillside

More personally, I was stoked to hear Shihad’s Home Again rock the stadium PA as we welcomed the mighty Phoenix back to Wellington. What a great way to celebrate NZ Music Month and the return of professional soccer to Aotearoa at the same time! It’s the combined effort of the whole team of five million that lets us enjoy events like this.

Months like this one are a reminder why we do this mahi. They make me proud of everyone’s work so far, and even more determined that we stay strong and keep moving.

Labour is about making New Zealand a better place to live. It’s at the heart of all that we do. With the support of people like you, we’re able to put our Labour values into action.
