Is it any wonder that conspiracy theories about COVID-19 and its possible vaccine are spreading faster than new infections in downtown New York? Or that fed-up Melbournians are treating restrictions with contempt?
Good governance requires the consent of the governed – and that consent must be informed. When governments lie and peddle blatant double-standards like fining people for fishing while allowing tens of thousands of leftist rent-a-crowds to cram city streets, the trust necessary for good governance goes out the window. “No one is a good boy for nothing”, as H. G. Wells observed.
The media love to preen themselves as the gatekeepers of democracy, but their lies are just as corrosive as politicians’.
NBC News spent weeks documenting its science contributor’s battle with COVID-19, but now he admits that he never tested positive for it.
Is it any wonder that conspiratorial types are branding the virus a hoax, when the so-called “curated media” are lying so obviously about it?
Dr. Joseph Fair, a virologist, believed he had the virus and appeared on air numerous times to discuss his struggle with illness in May and June. On Tuesday, Fair admitted that he tested negative for the virus multiple times but had originally believed he had it regardless. Fair also tested negative upon taking an antibody test.
“My undiagnosed/suspected COVID illness from nearly 2 months ago remains an undiagnosed mystery as a recent antibody test was negative,” Fair tweeted Tuesday. “I had myriad COVID symptoms, was hospitalized in a COVID ward & treated for COVID-related co-morbidities, despite testing negative by nasal swab.”
Fair suggested during an interview on the “Today” show May 14 that he may have gotten the virus through his eye during a flight. He conducted the interview while in a New Orleans hospital, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
This has been part of the media’s continuous modus operandi: ramp the scaremongering up to 11, the facts be damned. And make doubly sure to suppress inconvenient facts.
NBC News originally told viewers about the negative tests, but abandoned that part of the narrative as the story continued, according to Steve Krakauer’s “Fourth Watch” newsletter. During a June 14 interview with Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press,” no one noted that Fair had already tested negative at least five times, according to Krakauer.
“In the end, NBC’s viewers were left with two very alarming – and false – impressions,” Krakauer wrote. “First, that an expert virologist can take every precaution but can still catch COVID-19 through his eyes. False. Second, that tests can be so untrustworthy that you can have multiple negative tests and still have coronavirus.”
All that the mendacity of the media-political class does is to worsen a situation that’s serious enough.
“This pandemic is scary enough without this false storyline introduced into the news picture,” Krakauer added.
From climate change to COVID-19, the media and politicians have a disgraceful record of taking serious but manageable problems and turning them into full-blown crises with their Chicken-Little screeching and lies. In the case of climate change, they drive ‘solutions’ which are worse than the problem. In the case of COVID-19, they not only wreak social and economic havoc; their ineptitude makes a bad situation worse.
Truly, politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy.
