The BFD: Source PAPERSPAST
A newspaper cartoon from 1880 showing Arthur Desmond being fired from his position at the socialist newspaper The Tribune.

A little bird tells me that a ‘far-left’ (sarc.) teller of tall tales and close associate of criminal hacker Rawshark is back to his old tricks. His next book scheduled to drop this year close to the election is all about…wait for it…wait for it…white supremacists in New Zealand.

I am sure that it is a complete coincidence that Stuff yesterday published a story from the 1880s about today’s face of the day as white supremacists are very thin on the ground in our little slice of paradise in modern times. So thin in fact that I can only assume that if the rumours about Nicky Hager’s book are true he will have to resort to his usual technique of spinning a tale short on facts and evidence into one long on innuendo, defamation and smear.

Disappointingly for the media, today’s face of the day doesn’t quite fit the stereotype that they are trying to create of far-right extremists being white supremacists. Arthur Desmond worked for a Socialist newspaper and was a failed politician who considered himself to be a “democratic socialist.” He was also prominent in the Union movement.

A racist who followed a socialist ideology.
