Racists are people who want a different treatment for people based on their ethnicity or ancestry and we do not want that! I want all NZers treated equally at law

Hobson’s Pledge leader Don Brash

In 2011 the Marine and Coastal Area Act confiscated public ownership of our coastline but allowed Maori to claim special ownership rights.

Why does this matter?

Nearly 600 claims have been lodged by private Maori interests. Many are likely to be successful. This will create a coastal-owning tribal aristocracy with rights to lease beach areas, mine seabed minerals, block competitors and BAN activities according to unwritten tribal laws. “Sacred areas” will be off-limits to the public. Some tribal members have already illegally blocked access to their beaches, according to Hobson’s Pledge.
