At the start of this project, I promised to try to rate every contest and candidate in the Auckland Local elections. That includes District Health Boards. They’re as numerous as measles cases, as successful as the Warriors and more boring than Steve Braunias’ Secret Diary columns. There are twenty District Health Boards administering the $20 billion public health system and for reasons I just don’t understand, we elect some of their board members. Incredibly, you and I can be elected to a District Health Board.

Forget medical school, this is as easy as 1,2,3…(The Single Transferable Voting system).

Forgive me, but there are 27 candidates standing for the 7 elected positions on the Auckland District Health Board and I don’t have the stamina to review, research and rate each one. However I will rank them, as you are being asked to, in this STV contest. I have read each of their profiles. You can vote for as few or as many as you wish but don’t tick the boxes. Rank them from 1 (your favourite) down to 27 (you really, really have it in for this person if you’re going to go such lengths).

One last piece of advice. If you decide to investigate the candidates independently and rank them yourself (to be fair, you really should), write their names out on a piece of paper first. There will be some crossing out, moving about, changing your mind and accidentally missing someone.
