Welcome to the BFD Family

When we launched The BFD our dedicated team of mainly volunteers worked long hours to build a conservative platform that we all could be proud of. Over the pandemic, we quickly became an oasis of sanity and support for our readers.

Locked down like most of you, I worked seven days a week to meet an ever-growing demand for our content. I had never worked so hard in my life but, like the rest of the team, I felt driven to support our BFD family as we all struggled through some really troubling and scary times.

I expressed my own hurt in our comment section about being excluded from cafes and being forced to go to a black-market underground hairdresser! Who would have ever imagined such a scenario? I also wrote an angry article about how my pregnant daughter was refused specialist care because she had refused the COVID-19 vaccine.

During this turbulent time our audience increased as people who had never heard of us discovered us through word of mouth and Google searches as they looked for answers in an increasingly difficult world.

In August 2021 we achieved a milestone of one thousand memberships. We had hundreds of thousands of readers each day by that time but it is our members that fund us, allowing us to be completely independent from the government.

Thanks to our members who are prepared to put their hands into their pockets to support us we can dedicate ourselves to providing our readers with news that they value. We also provide a range of different views that they can discuss in New Zealand media’s best-moderated comment section.

We take immense pride in our independence. Unlike many media organisations that rely on government funding or subsidies, we have chosen a different path. Instead, we depend entirely on the generosity of our members and readers’ donations to continue our mission.

Thanks to our fantastic team of volunteer moderators readers can enjoy reading quality comments that add to our articles and also write comments without having to worry about abuse from others. Many have told us that they enjoy reading our comment section below each article almost as much as they enjoy the articles themselves.

Over the past six months, The BFD has faced a sharp drop in revenue. As we navigate these turbulent waters, we turn to our BFD family for support.
