Many songs get covered or re-interpreted, the covers often being more successful than the original.

Here are some cover versions of one song along with the original, let us know in the comments which is your favourite, or if you don’t like any of them.

“The Sky is Crying” is a song written and recorded by Elmore James and released in 1960.

It has been covered by many acts including:

Sonny Boy Williamson II teamed up with Matt “Guitar” Murphy on the 1963 album “Keep It to Ourselves”.

Albert King on his 1969 album “Years Gone By”.

Earl Hooker included his take on his 1969 album “Don’t Have To Worry”.

Eric Clapton on his 1975 album “There Is One In Every Crowd”.

George Thorogood and The Destroyers on their 1978 album “Move It On Over”.

Gary Moore on his 1990 4 track CD single “Still Got The Blues For You”.

Stevie Ray Vaughan recorded his versions during the 1984 recording sessions for the album “Couldn’t Stand The Weather” and the 1985 sessions for “Soul To Soul” neither made it to the albums. They were released posthumously on the 2000 album “Blues At Sunrise” and the 1991 album “The Sky Is Crying”.

Just a bloke getting on with life, seemingly becoming less tolerant, more grumpy and politically incorrect as I go.
