Does anyone who isn’t part of the dwindling minority of Americans who still think Joe Biden is doing a good job, or the legacy media, really care about the January 6 hearings?
Less than one in 15 Americans bothered to tune into the House Un-American Activities Committee January 6 hearings. More than twice as many are adamant that they won’t bother tuning in at all.
That’s because, contrary to Politico’s laughable claim that Democrats are refraining from “injecting political messaging into an ongoing, bipartisan investigation”, most Americans are well aware of what the hearings really are: a good, old-fashioned, Soviet-style show-trial.
The ‘January 6’ hearings have been a literal made-for-TV affair, including one prime-time session produced by famous former television boss James Goldston.
Far from an “armed insurrection”, the truth is that January 6 protests really was, to coin a phrase, “fiery but mostly peaceful protests”. There was some violence and ugliness, yes, and certainly some bad actors, but mostly it was just a protest that got out of hand.
At this point, it seems worth re-capping what ‘January 6’ actually was – a big, embarrassing and moderately bloody riot. Only four people died at the Capitol that day and all were Trump supporters: unarmed female rioter Ashli Babbitt was shot by a Capitol cop; two rally participants were felled by heart failure; and one rioter died following an accidental drug overdose.
So, as innocent as George Floyd, then.
(Interestingly, one Capitol officer whom the media claimed as a “J6 casualty” was actually murdered by a Nation of Islam follower, months later.)
Just a question for Australia’s ABC, which has been hyperventilating about J6 even more than it did the equally-fake Russiagate lie: when left-wing protesters literally smashed their way into Australia’s Parliament House with iron bars and attacked Federal Police, was that an insurrection? Was our democracy almost lost?
More notably, how threatened was America’s democracy by months of bloody, destructive and truly murderous riots from the left?
All told, the actual ‘January 6’ riot was broken by law enforcement in two-to-three hours, after which the results of the 2020 election were formally certified. Without getting into a game of ‘ours is bigger than yours’, it is worth comparing ‘January 6’ with the bloody Black Lives Matter / Antifa riots (Minneapolis, Kenosha, Seattle / CHAZ, Atlanta, Chicago, Portland’s 120 days of rage… etc) which ravaged the US for most of 2020. These killed perhaps 30 people, and caused at least $2 billion in recorded damages.
It wasn’t an “insurrection” and it certainly wasn’t a “coup”.
Coups are almost invariably military in nature: the term by definition generally refers to the use of national or personal military forces by a defeated leader attempting to regain or retain power.
Even if we accept that a rabble of ageing civilian yahoos in buffalo head-dresses and Uncle Sam costumes could theoretically launch a coup, a very minimum requirement for it to qualify as a coup would be awareness of the alleged plot on the part of its leader. And, to date, literally no evidence has been presented that Trump knew beforehand of a planned riot.
What we are getting from the J6 hearings is a concatenation of obvious lies.
Almost literally no guns or other effective projectile weapons were seized during the fighting or found in the Capitol.
A lengthy article in the right-leaning Washington Examiner breaks down all of the weapons that were captured, or taken from arrestees. Some typical examples include ‘tomahawk’, ‘shield’, ‘firecracker’, ‘chemical irritant’ and ‘metal sign’. One well-prepared arrestee boasted all of the following: ‘snowboarding helmet, walking cane, master lock, [a] rope’.
There were literally no guns inside the Capitol building — except the officer’s pistol that killed Ashli Babbitt. In fact, the crowd was less armed than a statistically similar gathering of American adults.
Even if the obviously ludicrous claims of the hearings were true, that still comes nowhere near to a serious threat to American democracy. Even if a bunch of old folks waving their little American flags, a handful of LARPers in Antifa-mimicry and the odd wacker dressed as a shaman had occupied the Capitol, it would have been even shorter-lived than the self-declared Antifa/BLM secession in Portland.
Like any Soviet show trial, the J6 hearings have a simple, crudely political motive: saving the Boss’ ass.
Uncle Joe Biden, by all appearances, is on track to be one of the all-time worst US presidents.

Biden got elected solely by being Not-Donald-Trump. Even if he doesn’t collapse into a gibbering pile of goo before 2024, the Democrats are in for the mother of all hidings in the Midterms in November this year.
Clearly, they’ve decided that their only hope of survival is desperately hoping Trump Derangement 2.0 will scrape them over the line.
Americans on both sides of politics shouldn’t fall into the trap of re-running 2020.
