Today’s face of the day Kiwi Wealth CEO Rhiannon McKinnon has opened up a can of worms with her decision to not invest in a company because of a sexist comment made by CEO and rich lister Simon Henry.

Tell me I’m wrong but isn’t the entire point of investing to make money regardless of the points of view of those involved in the company? Since when has the return on investment been calculated based on someone’s opinions?

On Thursday, Kiwi Wealth CEO Rhiannon McKinnon told Newshub it was in the process of adding the chemical company to its exclusion list because of the “derogatory” comments.

According to its website, Kiwi Wealth considers “environmental, social, and governance issues” for all its investments as part of its Responsible Investment policy.

It is easy to find sexism everywhere, especially inside the media. A Stuff article for example happily reduces comedian Guy Williams to a sex object complete with a naked picture of him. Imagine if they did that for a woman and used a similar naked photo?

Isn’t this a double standard? If Rhiannon McKinnon is going to exclude a company because one man said something sexist about a woman shouldn’t she also exclude media companies who objectify men?

The Edge, which is a NZ music show, is guilty of the exact same sexism towards men. They objectify them as sexy slabs of man meat rather than individuals with personalities.

George FM is yet another example of NZ media treating men as sexual objects of desire.

[…] The male stripper shortage was first reported on by Stuff.

Strip of Meat, which supplies male strippers and life drawing models, tells the website demand is currently 33 per cent greater than it was at this time last year.

The Hits (yet another NZ music media site) objectifies red-headed men in particular.
