We, humans, are a funny lot. We’ll barely bat an eye at unspeakable atrocities inflicted on humans but cruelties against animals move us to outrage. John Wick murders 77 human beings, while remaining a hero — because a gangster killed his dog.
Even we meat-eaters are infuriated by wanton cruelty to animals, especially the cute ones. Hal Herzog, who has extensively studied the psychology of human-animal interactions, concludes that humans find it almost impossible to think rationally about animals.
Dr Anthony Fauci is a slippery customer who has, so far, gotten away apparently scot-free on everything from lying to Congress to letting tens of thousands of gay men die from AIDS in the 1980s by refusing to promote life-saving treatments.
But now it turns out that he tortures puppies!
A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers is demanding answers from top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci about reports that an institute under his leadership funded “cruel” drug toxicity experiments in dogs.
Fauci, a lifelong, career health bureaucrat, is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a position he has hung on to with all the tenacity of a bush tick since the 80s. But, for all that he’s been running the place for forty-odd years, Fauci maintains a remarkably Sgt Schultz-like ability to know nuzzink about what actually goes on, on his watch.
He was blissfully unaware, we are supposed to believe, that money under his control was being siphoned off, via activist bag-men, to fund dangerous gain-of-function research in Wuhan. This, despite Fauci being a fervent proponent of such research.
So, what else was NIAID up to, under Fauci’s no-doubt-unsuspecting watch?
Documents show that NIAID spent $1.68 million in taxpayer funds for animal experimentation. The tests were conducted between October 2018 and February 2019 at SRI International, a research group headquartered in Menlo Park, California.
The experiment involved injecting and force-feeding 44 beagle puppies between six and eight months old with an experimental drug for several weeks, before killing and dissecting them. There also was experimentation on mice.
The documents were obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request by the White Coat Waste Project, a nonprofit government watchdog. The watchdog said that this marks the fourth experiment on beagles funded by NIAID that it has been able to uncover.
This was in 2018-19, remember — not the wild west days of animal research, when people like the Behaviourists were conducting egregiously cruel experiments like “learned helplessness” (don’t look it up — take my word for it, it was nasty). Animal research guidelines today are incredibly tight: the “Three Rs” (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) rule supreme. Replacement, most of all: if you can replace animals in any way (say, by using a computer model), then you absolutely must. Using animals unnecessarily is strictly frowned upon.
Unless you’re Dr Fauci and NIAID.
The House members, led by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), called the experiment “unnecessary” in their letter to Fauci on Oct. 21.
“While documents state that the ostensible purpose of this study was to ‘provide data of suitable quality and integrity to support the application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory agencies,’ the FDA itself has recently stated that it ‘does not mandate that human drugs be studied in dogs,’” they told Fauci […] They are also asking why the NIAID continued to fund testing involving dogs when the FDA has said such tests aren’t required. “What has NIAID done to explore the use of non-canine and non-animal alternatives to meet FDA requirements?” they said.
But, when you’re a dog in the NIAID labs, no-one can hear you bark. Literally.
The lawmakers also expressed horror at a procedure used in the experiment. They noted that an invoice to NIAID involved an item called a “cordectomy,” also known as devocalization or de-barking. The procedure involves slitting a dog’s vocal cords to remove its ability to bark, howl, or cry.
“This cruel procedure … seems to have been performed so that experimenters would not have to listen to the pained cries of the beagle puppies,” the 24 legislators said. “This is a reprehensible misuse of taxpayer funds.”
The Epoch Times
After all the unconscionable stuff he’s got away with so far, it remains to be seen whether Fauci gets away with literally letting his minions torture puppies.
But, hey, I’m sure he knew nuzzink.
