I am reaching out to you because I know you, your family, and all Aucklanders have had enough.
The post-cabinet press conference yesterday afternoon was disgraceful and my heart went out to the people of Auckland who have spent nearly ten weeks locked in their homes, working from home, homeschooling kids, watching businesses go down the drain, missing important life events and medical appointments, and waiting for some kind of plan.
It has been tough and now the Government has imposed on you another two weeks of Level Three plus picnics.
It is plain to see that the Prime Minister and her Government are out of ideas and making it up as they go. This is not good enough.
I have called for the Prime Minister to visit Auckland herself and see the stress she is continuing to expect Aucklanders to live under while her Government plays catch-up on their late vaccine roll-out and failure to prepare for a Delta outbreak.
National have already provided the Government with the answers to getting through Covid-19 with our Opening Up plan. You will have seen that Labour have subsequently adopted many of our ideas including introducing saliva and rapid antigen testing, partnering with GPs and pharmacists, and allowing better access to data for Whanau Ora.
The good news is that National have been working hard to come up with more solutions and later in the week we will be sharing them in the hopes that the Government will adopt them too.
We will continue to push the Government to provide answers and meaningful support for Aucklanders and businesses.
