Members of a NZ Facebook group were asked several weeks ago to share their Covid-19 experiences.
Most New Zealanders living in New Zealand have not had Covid and do not know anyone who has. Those who have commented with the stories below. *Names have been removed and minor spelling or grammar edits have been made for clarity. Facebook has since taken down the page.
- My auntie and cousins got it in the states. My cousins had no complaints except the taste and smell. But my auntie who’s already got health issues said if she got it again she thinks she would die so she got the jab but she’s known to be dramatic.
- Nope from the heart of south Auckland….which gets me thinking ?Isn’t a pandemic supposed to be killing people like crazy? Like bus loads of dead bodies kind of thing? Most of the cases linked to clusters previous and current, isn’t this a clear sign that the pandemic was out in public and because it’s a pandemic should we be seeing loads of dead bodies? Norway classed Covid as a flu. Just speaking out loud.
- Yep I know a few. A friend who I used to work with here in NZ lives in Florida now. She got it, for her it was like a bad flu. Bed ridden, body aches, fever etc but recovered like any other flu she ever had. Nothing special required to recover. A guy I follow on YouTube got it, he took a few days off from running his channel & recovered just the same as any other flu he ever had. Another friend thought he caught it, but wasn’t sure as it was pretty mild.
- I flew to Panama, Central America, in July. I caught Covid in early August. It started with a day or 2 of feeling tired, then a headache and a minor sore throat. The headache was pretty bad to be fair, but nothing paracetamol didn’t fix. I had a fever for 3-4 days and loss of appetite for a week. I’ve had the flu once before in my life and it was much the same. Most people I talk to here in Panama have caught Covid and from talking to others it seems that I had a more severe reaction to it. I will also note that I am meant to be a ‘high risk’. I have pre-existing health issues and high blood pressure. Covid is not a foreign, scary thing over here (and potentially in the majority on the world), unlike in NZ. Of course people don’t want to get it and there are government restrictions, but there’s far less fear. I’m guessing because their governments haven’t tried to do the impossible task of “eliminating” the virus. It means NZ is far behind the rest of the world when it comes to public knowledge, from experiencing first hand covid in the community. Here in Panama, if you get Covid you just self isolate. There is no managed isolation, no one checking in on you, no testing. You are just told to go home (hotel in my case) and isolate.
- Yes 4 people, family. They are ok. Like a bad cold for 3 of them. 1 of them had no symptoms but tested positive ?
- Only my friend in the states, she got it twice.
- My entire Welsh family got Covid last year and no one has long Covid. What I am concerned about is my elderly great aunt and uncle (fully vaxxed in Feb) have now got Covid again, and this time it has hit them for 6. They breezed through the first time. The others in the family who aren’t vaccinated haven’t caught it off them even though they are my aunt and uncle’s caregivers.
- The majority of my family are in the UK. Most have had covid and fully recovered. My Dad in his 80s was hospitalized and we nearly lost him. He recovered and then they double vaccinated him. He has long Covid now but is slowly getting better. For many Covid is not too serious but some are more unfortunate. People need to look at how to self treat if they do get it to give themselves the best chance.
- A 19yr old friend got it in Brazil last year. Loss of smell for 2 weeks, didn’t pass it in to anyone and fully recovered.
- I’ve been looking at this and I haven’t found good evidence of lots of vaccine deaths, have you? NZ’s death rate has been way below average both this year and last year. You can look it up at Statistics NZ.
- My mother in-law was one of the deaths.
- My uncle can no longer walk after having the vax and the doctors don’t know what to make of it but they are very reluctant to blame the vax.
- My sister in law has been interviewed regards her mums condition after receiving the 2nd jab. It will be online soon, out in the open where it should be. If I was an elderly person, I definitely wouldn’t be getting the jab. She did have other health issues but it sounds like she was riddled with blood clots. No one at the hospital would answer our questions when we asked if it was related. She was reasonably well considering also we lost my mum 2 months before her but mum was cancer. So this year can just hurry up and end already.
- 2 of my friends friend both pregnant had the jab and they both lost their unborn babies?
- My daughter’s partner’s nana was in a rest home she had her 1st vaccine 2wks ago and she died last night . She had said to her daughter and son tell my grandchildren not to have the vaccine. Angry.
- My Dad is a GP and has lost his job until he gets vaccinated. He is only willing to get Novavax so he won’t be working until that finally arrives. I haven’t researched Novavax in depth I just know its the old technology of vaccine, like the other vaccines we have around (MMR, tetanus, etc). Well funny story, my Dad was just about to get the Pfizer when his healthy 38 year old patient dropped dead three days after he got it. After that happened my Dad decided to not get the shot after all.
- I just spoke to my doctor who refused to discuss it, shutting me down despite having a history of blot clots, and a cousin who just died from a blood clot after getting the jab? I’m gonna keep fighting it though!
