A report about the Financial Market Authority lists its Maori name, specifically Te Mana Tatai Hokohoko. Broadly translated Tatai Hokohoko means organised trade.

That would be acceptable, if rather infantile, given pre-European Maori were not traders, although they certainly were once Europeans arrived.

But swapping say a fleshy shin bone for a forearm in a mood of goodwill during a cannibal feast, as doubtless may have occurred, doesn’t constitute trading. Note the agency is not The Market Authority, but instead the “Financial” Market Authority.

How long I wonder before government money is allocated to some pretender with a non-academic nonsense degree in Maori wonderfulness, to “research” and write a book showing that just as pre-European Maori discovered the Antarctic, so too they invented coinage.

One thing’s certain, the first shyster to do that will have 100% endorsement from the disgraceful Royal Society.
