I rarely watch the 6 o’clock edition of news on TV1 or particularly TV3 as I try to avoid the risk of visually running into ‘Toxic Tova’.  This hallmark to describe her seems to have been picked up by those of us on the right of politics and it would seem to be entirely appropriate.

By definition, a toxic person is one whose behaviour adds negativity and upset to your life. Often people who are toxic are dealing with their own stresses and traumas. To do this they act in ways that don’t present themselves in the best light and upset others along the way.

I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing the end of an item by the said lady on Wednesday night. She was spewing out some vitriol about National MPs including Judith Collins deciding not to appear on ‘Red Radio’ or Newshub Nation. If the look on her face was anything to go by one would think she had swallowed Judith Collins whole. Realising the item was yet another hit on the Leader of the Opposition, something which occurs almost hourly across the media, I girded my loins and investigated the Newshub web page.

What a revealing, though not unsurprising experience. There were plenty of articles about Judith from all different angles but all mainly banging on about the fact that she, to all intents and purposes, will be rolled tomorrow. Just about every one of the National MPs, it appears, is falling over themself to tell Tova about everything that is going on in National. Who has got numbers, could get numbers or might try and get numbers. Then of course Judith is such a disgrace going into a shop and buying an ice cream without a mask. Especially so, after calling Jacinda’s bestie a “big fat hypocrite” for going to the beach without a mask on and allowing the person she was with to break Level lockdown rules and go swimming.

But, of course, it wasn’t really swimming. Siouxsie told Ashley, that it wasn’t. He was happy to take her at her word even though the video evidence clearly proves that she was lying.

Despite this, according to the MSM Siouxsie is not a hypocrite for doing exactly what she tells everyone else not to do in level 4, but Judith is for not wearing a mask in level 2. Here’s the difference – Judith owned up to it while Siouxsie just laughed her blatant misdemeanour off. If you want a difference in class and intelligence you have it right there.

Peta Credlin (Sky News Australia) and others are on a different plane to the likes of Tova. They are not on some petty crusade trying to oust a political leader. They deal in the weighty issues of the day. Certainly, they call politicians out if they deserve it, but they could be from either side of the political spectrum. The problem with many journalists in this country is they spend too much time trying to be the big fish in the small pond. This entails them spending most of their time trying to score cheap political points or going on a crusade against a politician they personally don’t happen to like.

This is journalism at its worst and it’s far too prevalent. All media are guilty of it, pretending to be fiercely independent while accepting Government handouts/bribes. Mike Hosking, Heather du Plessis-Allan and Barry Soper are about the only ones left holding this rabble to account. Objective journalism died many moons ago. The news media at 6 o’clock seem more interested in bombarding us with words we don’t understand. What we do understand is that there’s no such thing as a free lunch and no doubt the money they accepted came with strings attached.

Tova and her ilk do their profession a disservice by indulging in the type of journalism they choose to promote. It is an insult to those viewers who tune in expecting something more than childish rants on subjects and persons they think are deserving of them. I’m not surprised Judith and the National Party have decided not to be subjected to point-scoring by toxic journalists asking inane questions to try and score cheap points to advance their own personal agenda. I wouldn’t waste my time either. Heather and Barry would disagree saying, quite rightly, National need every opportunity they can get. I don’t think there is any benefit if the interviewer is hopelessly biased.

I have just heard Mike Hosking play clips of Jacinda at the pulpit of truth opening up for questions from journalists. Every day the first to get to ask a question is either one of her besties, Jessica (Jessica Mutch – McKay) or Tova.
