Dear Newshub, Herald, TVNZ and RNZ,

This is a complaint about the lack of balance in your reporting about the drug Remdesivir:

Ashley Bloomfield apparently suggested that, ‘One of the best known treatments so far is Remdesivir, an antiviral drug that has been used overseas and in New Zealand for “quite a while” to try and stop the Covid-19 virus from replicating and spreading in the body.’

However, a couple of very recent studies have found Remdesivir which costs $4,400 per person did not help in severe cases of Covid-19:

“No clinical benefit was observed from the use of remdesivir in patients who were admitted to hospital for COVID-19, were symptomatic for more than 7 days, and required oxygen support.”

Authors’ conclusions: remdesivir probably has little or no effect on all-cause mortality at up to 28 days in hospitalised adults with SARS-CoV-2 infection. We are uncertain about the effects of remdesivir on clinical improvement and worsening. There were insufficient data available to examine the effect of Remdesivir on mortality across subgroups defined by respiratory support at baseline.

Surely the New Zealand public, who make a significant contribution to your income, deserve to know there are questions around the efficacy of Remdesivir?

Or is it now the role of the media to protect Ashley Bloomfield from all scrutiny because the simple-minded public need to see him as nothing less than a Demi-God? (Tova O’Brien seems to think so.)

I have never seen such a sycophantic bunch of incompetent mesmerized tits as the Covid press gallery. I would pull funding from all MSM and give it directly to independent freelance journalists.

The only alternative news source, The BFD, is at least openly biased but not to the point of being unreadable. Also, their commenting rules are probably the strictest in the country (not exactly a safe haven for free speech).

Have a wonderful day!
