If the West finally falls again, as many fear, it will be because it simply stopped believing in itself. When Rome fell the first time, the empire had degenerated into something resembling Portland in togas. Rome had stopped believing in itself. The barbarians, on the other hand, believed very much in themselves.
“The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity,” wrote W. B. Yeats. Camille Paglia has argued that the surest sign of a civilisation in terminal decline is when it embraces decadence. The West is not just embracing, but celebrating decadence: everything up to and soon enough, on all signs, including open paedophilia.
The West’s enemies, on the other hand, have no truck with decadence. The Taliban notably prefer the black Shahada flag to the Pride rainbow.
And even China is not having any truck with “girly-men”.
China will prohibit non-masculine men from appearing on TV, according to a new regulation.
“Broadcasters must ‘resolutely put an end to sissy men and other abnormal esthetics,’ the TV regulator said,” reports The Associated Press. The regulations are reportedly designed to “vigorously promote excellent Chinese traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture […] Chinese pop stars, influenced by the sleek, girlish look of some South Korean and Japanese singers and actors, are failing to encourage China’s young men to be masculine enough,” reports AP.
Mind you, with years of selective abortion and the One-Child policy skewing China’s gender-balance, some of the blokes are going to have to take their turn in the barrel, lest the country be crippled by a nation-wide epidemic of blue balls.
But, as with everything in China, it’s appearances that count. Face must be maintained, even in the Great Chinese Sausage Party.
“From the economic realm, the financial sector to the cultural circle, and to the political field, a profound transformation, or a profound revolution, is taking place,” said nationalistic blogger Li Guangman, as quoted in the Daily Mail.
“This is a political transformation … returning to the original mission of the Communist Party of China, returning to the people centralism and returning to the essence of socialism,” Li said.
On top of its attempts to assert control over China’s cultural sphere, the CCP has been making increasingly forceful and often violent attempts to bend its populace and surrounding entities to its vision. The Daily Wire
So, man up, Chinese girly-men!
Your Dear Leader may look like Winnie-the-Pooh, but that doesn’t mean that the footsoldiers of Xi Xinping Thought can prance about looking like they’re auditioning for Queer Eye Beijing. It’s commosexual, not metrosexual, in Xi’s China.
It’s no good trying to take down the Decadent West, if you’re going to mince across Tiananmen Square in a Pride float at the victory parade.
Still, it’s easy enough to make fun of China, but, let’s face it: at least they believe in themselves.
The West hasn’t, in decades.
Who looks most likely to win?
