Guest post by Rene, owner of a small business with delightful staff and an appreciation of the beautiful things in life. One of these beautiful things, The Fallen Madonna, hangs on the wall and is a symbol of the resistance. Rene is an organiser and continually manages to stay one step ahead and organise his way out of trouble. He is currently doing what he can to end lockdown and save his business.
Aucklanders’ support for lockdown has not fallen enough to stop level 4, despite the fact that there is about 50% more traffic on Auckland’s roads than under the last level 4 lockdown.
Well done to the rest of New Zealand, particularly the South Island. Your lack of support for Labour’s lockdown meant you went to lockdown level 2.
We have all seen the comments asking for a leader to stand up. There won’t be one.
You. Me. Fellow Aucklanders and New Zealanders. The tide will be turned by people like you and me and we all will end lockdowns by resisting with small acts of non-compliance!
People Power works against authoritarian diktats. The Danes resisted by bashing pots and pans in the streets until the government and media could ignore them no longer. People power ended all the silliness in Denmark. It will end all the silliness we still have in New Zealand.
We are seeing the wheels slowly falling off, shortages of meat in Auckland, shortages of many other products New Zealand wide and Siouxsie Wiles showing us the contempt that she holds for fellow Kiwis – by flagrantly flouting her own diktats.
It can’t go on.
Here are some tips for better living, from the comments from my first article…
- Go for a drive, for fun, with the kids – keep some grocery bags on the seat and just say “Supermarket Shopping” if stopped.
- Resist the sign-in – nothing good ever came of governments tracking their citizens’ movements.
- Ride a bike, or put the bike on the car and go for a drive – It is exercise, officer.
- Don’t get tested. The government uses testing to justify further extensions to lockdown. No tests, no justification for lockdown.
- The most popular was: Whenever possible, don’t wear a mask, but smile brightly to those Karens you see.
- Do what you want, when you want, but remember when speaking with police, give the minimum information: going to the supermarket, or doctors, or chemist. Then keep your mouth shut. Video everything.
- Mental health is very important – the best story was the rural neighbours having a beer together. Who will you have a coffee with?
And a comment I particularly like: “You comply, hoping they will stop. But they will not stop, because you comply.”
What can you do? You can suggest small acts of non-compliance to end the lockdown in the comments below.
