One of the biggest problems for the climate alarmists is that their scary predictions of climate doom just keep flopping. For at least 30 years, alarmists have been shrieking that we’ve got just ten years to save the planet. Yet, so far, we have yet to be drowned, desertified, or burned to death.

In fact, a recent peer-reviewed paper found that none of the apocalyptic climate predictions have come to pass.

Still, the alarmists just keep screeching that imminent doom is just ten years away.

The world faces an onslaught of coastal flooding starting in the mid-2030s due to a “wobble” in the moon’s orbit, Nasa has warned.

Wait, what has that got to do with climate change, you ask? You underestimate the alarmists.

Numbers of floods could quadruple as the gravitational effects of the lunar cycle combine with climate change to produce “a decade of dramatic increases” in water disasters.

The space agency said coastal cities would experience “rapidly increasing high-tide floods” and they would occur in “clusters” lasting a month or longer.

As it turns out, this is just a regular astronomical cycle.

It said the main cause was a “regular wobble” in the moon’s orbit, which was first recorded in 1728.

Nasa said: “What’s new is how one of the wobble’s effects on the moon’s gravitational pull – the main cause of Earth’s tides – will combine with rising sea levels resulting from the planet’s warming.”
The wobble in the moon’s orbit takes 18.6 years to complete.

For half of that time, regular daily tides on Earth are suppressed, meaning high tides are lower than normal, and low tides are higher than normal.

During the other half of the cycle tides are amplified, meaning high tides get even higher, and low tides get even lower. As global sea levels rise, the amplification effect will be increased.

See what they did there? Or, more accurately, what they didn’t do?

“The wobble in the moon’s orbit takes 18.6 years to complete.” Reading that, you might think that this is a rare event that takes 19 years. In fact, it’s a regular, 19 year cycle in the moon’s orbit. So, we’ve already been through nearly two of these cycles since James Hansen predicted that rising sea levels would drown New York.

The next time this “lunar assist” to high tides comes around will be in the mid-2030s. By that time global sea levels will have been rising for another decade.

At the current rate of about 3 mm a year, that means that sea levels will be a whopping… 3 cm higher. Time to break out the flippers and snorkel.

Bill Nelson, head of the space agency, said: “Low-lying areas near sea level are increasingly at risk and suffering due to increased flooding, and it will only get worse.

“The combination of the moon’s gravitational pull, rising sea levels, and climate change will continue to exacerbate coastal flooding on our coastlines and across the world.”

The Telegraph

Sea levels have risen steadily for thousands of years during the current interglacial period. They’ve risen some 22 cm globally since 1900. In that time, the moon has gone through more than six of its “wobbles”.

Did anyone notice?

In the meantime, islands and low-lying countries have stubbornly refused to disappear under the waves.

The only thing really wobbly here is the increasingly unhinged climate scare-campaign.
