Doctors are trained to think – but some are being prevented from saying what they think.

The training to become a doctor requires a high level of intelligence and years of study and residency practice.  In the United States of America, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics says it takes 11-14 years.

Ever wonder how long is medical school or how many years does it take to become a doctor? The requirements for becoming a doctor in the U.S. may vary by specialty. In general, doctor requirements include completing a 4-year undergraduate degree program, spending 4 years in medical school, and then completing 3-7 years of residency training before becoming eligible for medical licensing. Both degree programs typically include general medical coursework, while prospective doctors can choose a specialty later, during their residencies.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), physicians and surgeons earned a median salary of $208,000 or greater in 2019. Based on data from the BLS, there were 756,800 physicians and surgeons working in the U.S. in 2018, and employment opportunities for these professionals are expected to increase by 4% over the 2019-2029 decade.

So, it takes 11-14 years to become a doctor in the United States:

4 years earning a bachelor’s degree.

Attending 4 years of medical school.

completing a 3- to 7-year residency program.

After residency, doctors may apply for a state license to practice medicine.

Why would a US doctor put a hard-earned vocation at risk, at great cost and personal hurt?

On 28 January 2021 Lady Wellington, of The BFD, posted a video of Dr Simone Gold, an American emergency room physician. It was shocking to hear that Dr Gold had been fired from her job at two hospital emergency services, and de-platformed on many social media sites, including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, mainly because she prescribed hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to COVID-19 patients.

Dr Gold founded a conservative doctors’ group called Frontline Doctors after this censorship. Frontline Doctors US have been ostracised, or worse, lost their practices, when they have sought to empower their patients with information regarding COVID- 19.

Informed Consent

The Ministry of Health NZ states it is every Kiwi’s right to have informed consent. Doctors in New Zealand are required to give patients information.

As a patient, you have the right to be told everything about your health and the care that you are receiving.

Whatever procedure you are to undergo, your consent or agreement is needed before the procedure takes place. This is referred to as Informed Consent. In some cases, e.g., if you are taking part in any research or if you are to go under general anaesthetic, you will be asked for your written consent (i.e., you will be asked to sign a consent form).

Before giving your consent, your doctor or healthcare provider will fully and clearly explain to you: what happens during the procedure; what other options there might be; what you can expect after the procedure; and any risks that may be associated with the procedure. You can also ask any questions that you may have about the procedure.

Right 7’ of the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights NZ

In other words, this valued right includes full information, the option of saying no to a treatment or procedure, and knowing if it is research.

Although not an anti-vaxxer, Dr Gold does raise caution about the new COVID-19 vaccine, from her independent medical point of view. She has mentioned the following:

  • It has been developed quickly, without the normal rigorous testing.
  • No other coronavirus vaccine has been successfully developed.
  • The risk factors are unknown.
  • Is the virus transmittable from person to person after inoculation?
  • Does it give immunity?  If so for how long?

She is accused of attacking mainstream science by urging people to wait for answers about the safety of the vaccine. The Guardian on 21 January 2021 attempted to discredit Dr Gold. The writer Peter Stone reported that Dr Gold “was charged for taking part in the 6 January attack on the Capitol”. The article claimed that Dr Gold had been identified and arrested, and faces charges of entering a restricted building, violent entry, and disorderly conduct.  The Guardian also reported that Dr Gold attended Donald Trump’s rally in New York and from there she went with others into the Capitol Building.

She says she was there, but disputes any charges of violent or disorderly conduct.

Dr Simone Gold is logical with her queries. To become a doctor, a person needs to have the ability to gather information, analyse symptoms and diagnose illnesses. She stated what she thought, lost her job and now according to The Guardian faces a criminal record.

The media slated Trump with contemptuous ridicule, for suggesting HCQ, a readily available drug, as a treatment. Facebook recently has done a complete about-turn, after previously censoring a post about the success of HCQ. The FDA has slightly relented also and now say that they are neutral on the use of the drug. Worldwide medical research and mainstream science are now softening their stance against HCQ.

Are doctors in New Zealand allowed to give patients their views about COVID-19?

Can they:

  • Prescribe hydroxychloroquine (after Fauci stated that it is ineffective), ivermectin, zinc or Vitamin D?
  • Express caution regarding the new vaccine?

It may be unlawful for a doctor in New Zealand to withhold information.

Updated Statement on informed consent on 9 December 2019

The Medical Council has recently revisited its Statement on informed consent.

Every time treatment is provided, a doctor must have permission to provide that treatment. The process of obtaining that permission is called ‘informed consent’. Without informed consent, the treatment may be unlawful. To help the patient decide whether they want a treatment, they first need to be given information, such as the risks and benefits of their treatment options…

Around the world, people have given up much during this pandemic. They deserve, and have a right, to insist on honest information from medical experts and political leaders.
