Yesterday the Prime Minister delivered her post-cabinet press conference and told a series of lies. No one in the media picked her up on those fibs, so it falls to us to outline her disingenuousness.

Have a listen to her answer to a very simple question:

She said no country has barred its citizens from returning.

Fact Check: False

Wikipedia has a list of all countries and their travel restrictions. Algeria, Mauritius, Morocco, Sudan, Montserrat, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu and Vanuatu have all closed their borders to EVERYONE.

Pants on fire.

She also said that refusing people entry renders them stateless.

Fact Check: FALSE.

Someone who is stateless is defined in international law, a stateless person is someone who is “not considered as a national by any state under the operation of its law”.

Pants on fire.

If they have a passport and/or a visa then by definition they are not stateless.

In fact, there are seven causes of statelessness, and being refused entry is not one of them.

Just because they are unable to travel does not render them stateless. The Prime Minister has misled the public, twice in one statement.

So much for being honest and transparent.

The fact that she delivers these falsehoods from the “Podium of Truth” just makes them even more galling.
