While the mainstream media slavishly parrot government propaganda, The BFD has consistently reported what the scientific evidence shows: lockdowns do not work.
If lockdowns really did work, then California, subject to some of the most stringent lockdowns in the United States, ought to be a COVID-free zone. In fact, the opposite is true.
Los Angeles County this weekend surpassed 1 million COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic and reported its first case of the more contagious variant that was initially discovered in the United Kingdom last year.
On Saturday, the county recorded more than 14,000 cases and some 253 deaths and 7,597 hospitalizations, statistics from the country’s department of public health show.
The figures push Los Angeles to the top county in the nation in terms of COVID-19 cases, totaling more than the next two counties, Cook and Maricopa, combined.
Though California has been among the strictest states in the nation in implementing restrictions, it has continued to see a surge in cases in the past two weeks, averaging more than 41,000 new coronavirus cases each day.
But, as politicians, having made a bad judgement, will do, California’s leaders are sticking to it, no matter what the evidence might say.
The grim forecast stood in contrast to an upbeat news conference held Friday by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Gov. Gavin Newsom at Dodger Stadium, which is being converted into a vaccination center capable of administering 12,000 doses per day.
California has received more than 3.5 million doses of the vaccine and has administered just over 1 million doses. Newsom said the state was on pace to exceed his goal of giving out roughly 1.5 million doses by Friday[…]
The governor’s Friday message stood in stark contrast to his warning early last month that strict lockdown measures would be enacted regionally when ICU bed capacity dips under the 15% mark. Days later, Los Angeles County was put under new lockdown orders.
Just as politicians refuse to admit when they’ve been flogging a disastrous policy, they also refuse to apply their own rules to themselves. Newsome was famously caught dining out with a group of cronies, including public health officials, even while Californians were subject to his draconian lockdown rules. San Francisco’s mayor was caught out at the same swish restaurant just a day later. San Jose’s mayor likewise held a multi-household outdoor Thanksgiving beano, after telling everyone else to “stay home”.
Meanwhile, the county’s public health department confirmed the first case of the COVID-19 variant, B.1.1.7, in an individual who recently spent time in Los Angeles County.
Though it was the first confirmed case of the variant in the county, public health officials believe it is likely already spreading in the community and are continuing to test samples.
