A new exhibition in New Plymouth looks at the impact of colonisation on Maori.

Dr Kiriana Bird appointed to College of GP’s Board

Waharoa and pou unveiled at Matakitaki

A sacred site in Pirongia has been recognised with the unveiling of a carved waharoa (entranceway), manuka palisade fence and three carved pou (posts) to commemorate the people who lived and died there in 1822. 

In May 1822, Matakitaki Pa witnessed an invasion by Northland iwi under the Nga Puhi chief Hongi Hika.

The pa, a place of refuge, was overwhelmed by Hongi Hika and his musket-bearing warriors as they laid siege to the fortified settlement.

Council’s Maori Economic Development Fund Supports Maori Enterprise

The 2020/21 Maori Economic Development Fund is now open to whanau, hapu, iwi and matawaka in Kapiti to help develop their business or social enterprise.

Vision of a new district court where everyone’s words are heard 
But wide-reaching changes to how courts operate, recently announced by Chief District Court judge Heemi Taumaunu, are set to change that.

The new vision of a court – called Te Ao Marama (the world of light) – looks very different to now.
