When even Mexico’s president is going in to bat for Donald Trump, you know that Facebook has royally screwed up.

Facebook joined the big tech pile-on to crush free speech and un-person Trump from the internet. While New Zealand’s Jacinda Ardern showed her true authoritarian colours by likewise joining in on the anti-Trump bullying, other world leaders are not so sanguine about Silicon Valley’s iron grip on public discourse. German Chancellor Angela Merkel criticised Twitter’s suspension of the president’s personal and POTUS Twitter accounts.

Now the president of Mexico – yes, Mexico, surely no friend of “Build the Wall” Trump – has joined the condemnation.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Friday branded Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg “arrogant” for his statement on Thursday that condemned the recent behavior of U.S. President Donald Trump and indefinitely blocked him from Facebook.

Reiterating his opposition to Trump being frozen out of social media platforms after the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday by Trump supporters, Lopez Obrador said he had read the “Facebook owner’s” comments with alarm.

“I felt he was very self-important and very arrogant,” Lopez Obrador said.

Lopez Obrador came to the Mexican presidency under the banner of the Partido de la Revolución Democrática, a left-wing, socialist party. He later formed MORENA (National Regeneration Movement), a similarly left-wing party. But, unlike too many of his fellow leftists, including not just Jacinda Ardern but Australia’s moronic Labor opposition, Lopez Obrador is clear-sighted enough to see that the enemy of his enemy is not his friend – or that allowing the richest corporations on the planet to control public opinion is going to end well in any way.

Speaking at a regular news briefing, he argued it was a “bad sign” that private companies could “censor” opinion.

“A court of censorship like the Inquisition to manage public opinion,” he said. “This is really serious.”

In view of this, consideration must be given to creating “alternative media,” said Lopez Obrador, an often outspoken leftist.

Meanwhile, as soulless, greedy corporate giants are wont to do, Facebook is serving us all a giant waffle-cone of bullshit and trying to convince us that it’s ice-cream.

Facebook believed the public has a right to the broadest possible access to political speech, even controversial speech, but the current context involved using the platform to incite “violent insurrection” against a democratically-elected government, Zuckerberg said.

Nearly every word of that statement is self-evident bullshit.
