I was appalled to see the following headline on my newsfeed yesterday morning — from the New Zealand Herald:

US Election: White House Staff Lighting Scented Candles — to Combat Smell of Fast Food.

I would expect this type of trash talk from the American news agencies in direct opposition to each other over their presidential preferences, like CNN and Fox, but to see and read the following introduction written by NZ journalists is disgusting.

“It’s been a stressful few days inside the White House as the Trump administration has to come to grips with defeat.  Reports from insiders hint that President Donald Trump is not dealing with the loss very well, and White House staffers are having to work extra hard to keep the peace.”

What follows in the article is a verbatim repeat of the original Daily Mail post which was full of innuendo and slurs about the Trump administration’s attempts at ensuring that a fair and lawful election process was pursued.

Unsurprisingly the article was carefully tailored for the mindless masses in the woke camp with despairing comments about the consumption of evil and environmentally unfriendly fast foods among others not worth repeating.

The above photo was used as supposed evidence for ludicrously infantile comments made about fast food odours proliferating the White House in the election’s aftermath. The photo is dated January 2019 and is of a spread the president put on for a visiting sports team when normal catering was unavailable. The NZ Herald chose to twist the facts and events to suit their anti-Trump narrative.

The most concerning element of this news feed from a New Zealand media outlet (with the New Zealand branding upon its name) is that I am reading it while sipping my coffee in Brazil. The whole world is seeing our name being tarnished with this pathetic and childish attempt at journalism!

One wonders at our current obsession with the American election outcome which is dominating all forms of media coverage at present. Some would say that the pendulum of global politics is about to swing in an irreversible direction. I am inclined to see their point of view especially when viewed in light of the controversy around the late posted voting and last-minute litigation changes to the policing of such. To all appearances there seems to be a global political agenda at work within the media agencies the world over whereas those who dare deviate from the approved narrative are smeared and discredited.

Yet the cynic in me suspects another agenda and one that may be closer to home. Could it be that another controversial and undemocratic law change is being pushed through parliament by our government while we are all distracted by the media-fuelled American election circus?
