Today’s face of the day is winning praise this week for her particular brand of journalism. Those who don’t like her describe her as a journalist who likes to create the news rather than report on it.

One recent example that stands out is how she went up to a brand new, wet behind the ears MP and asked him not once but several times if he was going to challenge Judith Collins for the leadership of the party. She might as well have asked me the same question given how ridiculous the question was.

After Luxon was parachuted into a safe blue seat, the Media party has been trying from day one to create the narrative that Luxon, a wet woke with zero political experience was going to simply step into the National leadership after being handed it on a silver platter by experienced National MPs.

Tova O’Brien doesn’t just create the news, she also enjoys aggressive interviews. Her latest interview of Jami-Lee Ross has garnered much praise in media circles for the hostile way that she treated him including refusing to let him answer her question because as far as she was concerned what he had to say was “rubbish” and not “factually incorrect”

“The Nation team had prepared some great questions but when he sat down and told me to be nice to him I pretty well set them aside. I wanted to give him a chance to reflect on his political career, the choices he made and the people he hurt.”
